2010–2011 Second Report on Building Culture

Editor of the thematic part called “Sustainable” of the Report on Building Culture 2011 of the Austrian federal government.

Author of the chapter on innovation in architecture and building culture. This chapter describes the low level of innovation in architecture and building culture in Austria and makes proposal to increase the innvation rate in this field. Several positive examples shall be used as inspiration for this: the federal housing research fund that existed in Austria successfully between 1968 and 1988; the recently finished Swiss National Research Programme on Sustainable Development of the Built Environment; participation as a topic for housing and urban planning; cluster building, using the example of Vorarlberger Holzbau-Kunst (Vorarlberg wood construction); innovation based on digital 3-D models; and the innovative tendering system of the Open Tender Procedure of the Flemish Goverment Architect.
The Platform Building Culture Policy tried to combine the knowledge of many experts from all over Austria into the Report on building culture 2011. It is organized as a platform of all important architectural institutions, be it trade associations, communities of interest, teaching and research, architecture education. This organisation provides an overview over the actual status quo and access to the relevant experts.
